“These stories aren’t about horror for horror’s sake. They’re about how children truly see the world—alive with mystery, shadow, and the quiet thrill that magic and menace can coexist just beyond the edge of the nightlight. For parents and read aloud to children.” ~ Randolph B. Schiffer

5 STARS: A Kinder, gentler version for your inner child
This collection of monster stories chronicles a father's journey shepherd his young children through their real and imaginary fears. The protagonists are Davids facing Goliaths with bravery and resilience. If you are a fan of the horror genre, this book is a kinder, gentler version for your inner child."

Bedtime Stories That Will Terrify Children is an unforgettable title that immediately grabs
your attention. Thankfully, the stories beyond the cover are equally memorable.
It is life through the eyes of a child as told by a father as
remembered by an adult. If that sounds confusing, you won’t be shocked to learn that the line
between story and reality blurs as the characters listening to the story often find themselves
characters in the story.
This is a book you will be thinking about after you put it down. It has much to say about fear,
death, family, and the stories we share. The more you bring to it, there more you will get out of
it.

5 STARS: Spooky, thoughtful, and very satisfying.
When I started this book, I didn't expect the stories to feel so real and imaginative. As I turned the pages, I felt like I was stepping into small, eerie worlds that reminded me of the strange thoughts we all had as kids. The book immediately caught my attention with a quiet, unsettling tone.
Each story had its own personality—some were creepy, some were emotional, and some just tension without forcing it.
I found myself enjoying how natural the storytelling felt. Nothing was too dramatic, but every scene had a purpose.
Schiffer's writing style stood out to me because of how calm and controlled it is, even when the story gets eerie. I could sense that he pays attention to small emotions and details.
By the end of the book, I felt like I had taken a quiet but chilling trip through different shoes of fear and imagination.

5 STAR: Toying with the blury edges of imagination and memory.
Randolph B. Schiffer’s story collection gestures toward psychological horror, with touches of nostalgia, family closeness, and a muted sense of unease.
Marketed as terrifying bedtime stories for children, the tales steer clear of gore or overt scares. Instead, they lean on atmosphere, occasionally brushing up against deeper anxieties by toying with the blurry edges of imagination and memory.
There’s a quietness to the horror here. The stories rarely take risks, but they aim for mood over
momentum. Schiffer avoids sugarcoating fear, which gives the collection a kind of honesty.

5 STARS: Randolph B. Schiffer's Bedtime Stories That Will Terrify Children is a hauntingly poetic collection that blurs the line between love and fear, childhood and memory.
From the monster dog that might be real to the red plant that feeds on memory, every story here is tinged with eerie tenderness.
Perfect for readers who love literary horror with heart and a touch of melancholy.

5 STARS: Randolph B. Schiffer’s Bedtime Stories That Will Terrify Children is a striking and reflective collection that goes beyond its dramatic title.
These stories offer atmosphere without relying on shock, and meaning without losing its sense of mystery. It's a collection that encourages reflection, invites emotion, and reminds us how powerfully childhood nights can stay with us long after we grow up.
